Modern buildings have seen an upgrade from the old site office trailers we’ve been used to seeing. In one recent construction, an office built a 12-modular unit complex that formed a 72 foot by 90 foot area. The space fit offices, a training room, conference rooms and large spacious areas, all by connecting site office trailers six trailers wide and two trailers back-to-back. Another company connected eight trailers side-by-side to create the same effect: a working office space.
Why are companies choosing to connect office trailers and modular buildings to house their office complex? There are three basic reasons.
Cost Effectiveness
The cost of modular buildings is half to one third of the cost of building a traditional office space. Cheaper material cost and delivery expenses are the main reasons offices save on construction. A modular factory produces materials that can be purchased in bulk and delivered much more cost-effectively.
Savings in foundation work and site preparation also weigh into the final cost. Modular trailers have their own frames to support units, making foundation work minimal.
Speed of Construction
Construction without building a foundation greatly speeds up the process of building. Speed of occupancy is also a factor in filling site office trailers. One site moved from concept to full occupancy in six weeks. With traditional construction, that occupancy level may have taken a year to complete.
Quality of Construction
The quality of site construction on site office trailers, unlike in traditional building projects, is not subject to questionable skill in the workers or changing weather conditions. Modular buildings are made in an enclosed, protected facility under strict quality control procedures. In normal outdoor construction projects, materials are exposed to the weather and subject to the mood and skill of hired labor. This results in a better fit and less chance of mold.
