Advantages Of High Purity Valves In Processing Applications

In many types of processing facilities, there is the need for both sanitary systems as well as the use of materials in all components of the system that will be non-reactive with the media. These same types of component requirements are also required for use in clean rooms and where deionized water is required.

Regardless of the specific system or application, the choice of high purity valves to meet these requirements is ideal. These valves are designed to use specific materials, typically PTFE for all wetted surfaces to prevent reaction of the valve with the media and to also eliminate the risk of bacterial growth or contamination of the valve.

The use of PFTE or polytetrafluorethylene is ideal for high purity valves for these types of applications. It is non-reactive, which means it will not interact with or chemically change any of the molecules within the media. This is not the case with many different types of metals, alloys and even with some resins and plastics.

Additionally, the use of PFTE, which is commonly known as Teflon, creates a non-stick surface on the wetted area of high purity valves. The non-stick surface keeps the media moving through the valve and prevents buildup on the walls of the wetted surfaces. With very limited friction, it also ensures an even flow through the system and is instrumental in maintaining the ideal operating pressure.

When looking for PFTE valves, always consider the working requirements of the application or system. This is not just the average, but the high and low rates for pressure, flow, and temperature.

Choosing the valve that is recommended for the full range of conditions is the most effective way to ensure a long-life cycle for the component and avoid the issue of poor performance, leaks or valve failure.
