Hair restoration in NJ often comes with a slew of myths that make you nervous about getting hair restoration surgery. Here are four of those myths finally debunked or “busted.”
They are Only for Men
Hair transplants are used for both men and women, but most commonly used to help balding men. However, that does not mean females cannot undergo hair restoration surgery. While fewer women are candidates for surgery, females with hair loss in defined areas, those with genetically high hairlines, those with hairlines affected by different surgeries, or those with “traction alopecia” may be very good candidates. All curious female patients should be evaluated by a hair transplant doctor.
It’s a “Wig” or Some Type of Artificial Hair
Surgical hair restoration is a moving procedure. We take your own healthy, living follicles from the sides and back of the scalp (where they are immune to hair loss) and move, or transplant, them to the bald or thinning areas. These are your own hair follicles. And once they are moved, they will grow like any other hair. You can cut, dye, and style them however you would like. Furthermore, there is absolutely no artificial hair or hair from another individual involved. Your own hair, simply moved. Period.
It Doesn’t Last Very Long
Transplanted hair is permanent and should never fall out. The hair comes from areas of the head that are resistant to hair loss. The hair is immune to the genetic hair loss process, and retains this immunity after it is moved. In other words, it will continue growing indefinitely.
Hair Transplants are Dangerous
Hair transplants are a very common and safe procedure. When performed by an experienced team, rates of complications are rare and mild and results are typically very good. Hundreds of thousands of hair transplants are performed in the US each year, and the outcomes and results we see are excellent.
