The Louisiana Lemon Law is there to help bail you out when you get stuck with a lemon but it is not automatic, you have rights but you also have responsibilities. Not understanding what is required of you can leave you in a bad place with a bad car.
Your Rights Explained
You do have rights when you purchase a vehicle, unfortunately when you are stuck with a lemon those rights may not seem very generous. For example:
* The dealer has 4 attempts to fix the problem
* The dealer can have 45 cumulative days to fix the problem
* The range of vehicles that are covered under the Louisiana lemon is more generous than other states
When you are stuck with a lemon waiting for 45 days to pass can seem like a lifetime. Additionally, having to get the car back to the dealership 4 times for repairs is a huge inconvenience but they are part of the law and you must deal with the responsibility to enact your rights.
A Lawyer Can Help
Typically, when you are stuck with a lemon you must deal with call after call to the dealership. If you have an attorney on your side the situation is a little different. In many cases when an attorney on your behalf joins the fight, the fight goes a little bit differently. Most manufacturers and dealerships know when an attorney is on board the matter is very serious and the respond differently. The dealership knows that they do not have a lot of wiggle room once an attorney is involved because the attorney knows the law! Krohn & Moss, Ltd. Consumer Law Center® can help you to understand your rights and responsibilities and ensure that the dealership and manufacturer is aware of their responsibility to you!
