What You Should Know About Selecting a Healthcare Plan

When it comes to selecting Atlanta GA marketplace insurance plans, it can be challenging. The selection process can be confusing for many people.

1. Insurance plans offer four types of networks – EPO, HMO, PPO and 3 POS.

An EPO is an Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) that covers visits to hospitals, doctors and specialists in the provider’s network. A Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) covers medical visits to doctors who provide services within the plan’s network. A Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) allows you to receive services from providers in and out of the network. A Point of Service (POS) is less expensive if you use a provider within the POS network.

2. You’ll be required to pay health insurance premiums.

Depending on your healthcare plan, the amount that you’ll have to pay for your plan can vary. This is called the premium. Each month, you’ll be required to pay your insurance premium. Even if you don’t visit the doctor during the previous month, you’re still required to submit your premium payments. If you don’t pay your premiums, your health insurance will lapse and cancel.

3. Health insurance plans are usually divided 9 into four categories.

These categories include Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. For each plan, insurance companies pay a certain percentage of the costs for medical procedures – Platinum (90%),
Gold (80%), Silver (97%) and Bronze (60%). Low monthly premiums mean that you’ll pay be required to pay a greater share of your health expenses.
